Clean Sport
Anti-Doping in sport is critical to maintain the integrity and ethos that sport abides by on a global basis. In the UK we are particularly proactive when it comes to maintaining a drug free sport and UKA are at the cutting edge. UKA maintain up to date website content that provides comprehensive and accurate information for athletes (of all ages and levels), coaches, parents, medical support staff, officials and other members of the athlete’s support group that require access to appropriate information in order to understand and comply with the anti-doping regulations.
All licensed persons, members or support staff, shall be deemed to have made him/herself familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UK Anti-Doping Rules and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping in the application and enforcement of the Anti-Doping Rules.
UK Athletics Anti-Doping Rules apply to all athletes competing and the members of clubs in Wales.

The Anti-Doping Rules & Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) Just as each sport has rules to determine how it is played or performed, there are Anti-Doping Rules in place to protect clean sport. Doping is defined in the World Anti-Doping Code as the occurrence of one or more of the Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs). It's much more than a positive test. You will find the current UK Anti-Doping Rules here. |

Many medications available for common medical conditions, such as asthma or hayfever, may contain prohibited substances. You need to be aware that these are readily available in products prescribed by your doctor or bought over the counter in a pharmacy. The advice from UK Anti-Doping is simple - check every single substance or medication before you use it, even if you have used it before. It is also important to remember that medications bought abroad may contain different substances than those in the UK and you should always check before you take them. |

Athletes can be tested any time, any place. UKAD test to deter those vulnerable to a doping decision and to find those who chose to cheat by using banned substances. Testing can take place in-competition at events, or out-of-competition at any other time or place, e.g., in training venues, or even at an athlete’s home. Testing is intelligence-led and risk-based, and it will always be conducted with ‘no advance notice’. |

The Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) process is a means by which an athlete can obtain approval to use a prescribed prohibited substance or method for the treatment of a legitimate medical condition. There are two types of TUE available:

The principle of strict liability means that an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) occurs whenever a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is found in the bodily specimen of an athlete, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was negligent or otherwise at fault. We strongly urge athletes to check for themselves whether the medications they are considering or have been prescribed are prohibited and not rely on another person’s assurances. Athletes should advise their medical personnel of their obligation to abide by the Anti-Doping rules of the sport and that any medical treatment received must not violate these rules. |
